This jazz orchestra, formed in 2011, comprises 19 internationally renowned professionals. It performs compositions and arrangements by Hannes Zerbe, adding its own distinctive touch that sets it apart from the usual big band repertoire, drawing on influences from modern symphonic music as well as, of course, the jazz tradition – from Gil Evans to Willem Breuker. The orchestra has produced three CDs to date and has performed, amongst other occasions, to great acclaim at the Jazzfest Berlin in the rbb’s Sendesaal in 2021, and at the Rosa Luxemburg Conference in Berlin in 2024 and 2025. It has also realised several major projects involving literature, for example using texts by Heiner Müller, Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Schwitters / DADA, as well as exploring the theme of industrial culture.
