FIELD is “intended for all those who have ears to hear”, wrote Tim-Caspar Böhme in the TAZ about the album “Heal the Rich”. The quartet led by Berlin-based saxophonist Uli Kempendorff performs pieces penned by the bandleader. The band has been performing concerts in this line-up since 2018 and has, in that time, developed a shared musical language characterised by subtlety and power.
The interplay between the four is captivating … ideas flow back and forth at breakneck speed, winding paths are taken and then abandoned again; even improvisation has its own story, its roots and experiences; jazz history resonates in this music, reflected upon and carried forward with relish and acumen.
