In the second half of the 18th century, music remained an exclusive pleasure at the Prussian court. The aspiring citizens' desire for music therefore led both to an increase in privately organised concerts and to increasing musical activity in the domestic sphere.

One of those interested in music at the intersection of the aristocracy and the aspiring citizenry was Otto Carl Friedrich von Voß (1755-1823). His interest in music gave rise to a large collection of music, which is listed in a surviving inventory from the last decade of the 18th century. A large part of these works may easily be understood as a field of activity for domestic music-making in upper-class circles. The collection of Otto von Voß also included musical instruments. A "Verzeichniss der musicalischen Instrumente" (list of musical instruments) preceding the music catalogue provides information on this.

On the one hand, the lecture will pursue the question of the extent to which Otto von Voß's collection of music stands for an emerging domestic music-making at the end of the 18th century in the broadest sense. On the other hand, the question of the contemporary significance of the listed musical instruments will also be considered in this context.

Christian Breternitz studied musicology, educational science and psychology at the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” Weimar and the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. In 2019, he completed his doctorate at the Universität der Künste Berlin on “Berliner Blechblasinstrumentenbau im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert” (“Berlin brass instrument making in the 18^th and 19^th century”). After working at the Musikinstrumenten-Museum of the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung (Berlin, 2012–2014), the Landesmuseum Württemberg (Stuttgart, 2015–2017) and the Deutsches Museum (Munich, 2017–2021), he has been working as a research associate and curator for woodwind, brass and percussion instruments at the Musikinstrumenten-Museum of the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung since 2020.

Khrystyna Petrynka's research traces the process of formation of the contemporary bandura in Ukraine, which for many centuries is considered a cultural and ideological symbol of the Ukrainian people. Covering and characterizing the activities of modern bandura player in the process of formation of contemporary bandura arts and their artistic influence on the identification of Ukrainians, support of the people in difficult time of war.

Within the last six years, Ukrainian musicologist Khrystyna Petrynka  lived in Lviv and worked was a teacher of rhythmic at Pavel Tabakov's private creative school while studying musicology at Ivan Franko National University. She has a Bachelor's degree in Music Art and a Master's degree in Musicology. Since April 2022 she has been working as a pre-doc fellow at the SIM PK.
