SIM Research Colloquium – Special Edition: Bibliography of Music Literature

Event date: 10/14/2026
Location: SIM seminar room, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

with Dr Thomas Ertelt, Dr Martin Elste and Prof. Dr Gesine Schröder

The bibliography of music literature compiled by SIM and published online since 2006 is the most comprehensive open-access bibliography on music in the world. In February 2026, we added the 500,000th reference to the BMS. To mark this occasion, we are organising a special edition of our SIM Research Colloquium on 14 October 2026 from 2 pm to 5 pm. Three papers, by Dr Thomas Ertelt, Dr Martin Elste and Prof. Dr Gesine Schröder, will address the history, purpose and benefits of the BMS and of specialist bibliographies in general. Afterwards, we would like to hold a discussion on the BMS’s future development with the panellists and those attending the colloquium. If the BMS did not exist, would it need to be invented?

2.00 pm to 5.00 pm
Free admission
The event is open to the public. No registration is required.

Access to the seminar room is via the entrance to the State Institute for Music Research. Link to OpenStreetMap
