Meet the Maker: Thorsten Feuerherdt, Manikin Electronic

Event date: 04/16/2026
Location: Musikinstrumenten-Museum, 6 p.m., in German

The Berlin-based company Manikin Electronic specialises in recreating historical electronic musical instruments. Meet one of the founders.

“Electronic music machines from Berlin” has been the motto of Manikin Electronic for over 20 years. One of its founders, Thorsten Feuerherdt, is a guest of Benedikt Brilmayer, curator of electronic musical instruments at the MIM. One of the company’s flagship products is the Mellotron, launched in 1963 and used by the Beatles, among others, for their legendary song “Strawberry Fields”. What challenges does recreating a technology that is over 50 years old present today? As well as technical issues, there is also the question of sound. Feuerherdt explains what constitutes “good sound” for him and how he discusses this with his customers. The audience is invited to join in the conversation and engage directly with the instrument maker and curator.
