Concert
Music played a role in 20th-century political resistance that should not be underestimated. It can give a voice to the oppressed and foster a sense of community. This is particularly evident in the songs of the labour movement of the 1930s, as well as in works composed in resistance to National Socialism. Composers such as Hanns Eisler, Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Erich Zeisl composed a wide variety of pieces whilst in exile, all of which centred on the idea of freedom.
The concert will feature not only works from the first half of the 20th century but also more recent compositions associated with the themes of resistance and freedom. The event invites you to experience and reflect on the social dimensions of music in the context of resistance through sound.
