Dr Dimitris Kountouras
Active as a performer, teacher and researcher in the field of Early Music and historical flutes Dimitris Kountouras is based in Greece. He is a visiting scholar at the Staatliche Institut für Musikforschung for September 2024 where he works on his research project: Instruments of the flute family in the Middle Ages: iconography, sources and performance practice (Lecture on 26 September 2024, 3 pm at Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung)
Nowadays there is information and research on historical flutes of the baroque Era and a growing interest on the renaissance flutes. On the contrary little is known for the instruments of the flute family in the Middle Ages. The main sources being the iconography and the references in literature. The present research is willing to sum up the information that we have up to the present and to give new lights on sources and on possible repertoire and performance practice.
