A Journey Through Time With Sound

Event date: 08/22/2026
Location: Musikinstrumenten-Museum, 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Musical encounters from the Stone Age to the 19th century. For children and families

What might the world have sounded like centuries ago? We cannot travel back in time – but through music we can get surprisingly close to the past. Together, we’ll immerse ourselves in the soundscapes of bygone eras: from the first simple melodies of the Stone Age, through festive court music, to the cheerful songs sung in market squares and the elegant salon music of the 19th century.

On our journey, we’ll discover which instruments were played back then and how music shaped people’s everyday lives. And we’d love to hear from you too: what music accompanies you today?

Join Jörg Joachim Riehle on an exciting journey through time filled with sounds – thrilling, surprising and guaranteed not to be boring!
