We mourn the loss of Peter Gülke

The conductor and musicologist passed away on 26 April 2026, shortly before his 92nd birthday. The SIM owes him a great deal.
Like many in the field of musicology, we too feel a deep connection to Peter Gülke and are deeply grateful to him. For many decades, he was a welcome speaker and panellist on a wide range of topics here at our institute, most recently on several occasions as part of our major research project on the history of musical interpretation in the 19th and 20th centuries. In his dual role as conductor and musicologist, he was uniquely qualified for this. We remember him particularly vividly for his contribution on the subject of musical retouching in 2022, as well as for a conversation with Hans-Joachim Hinrichsen on the occasion of his 90th birthday in 2024.
We shall miss Peter Gülke greatly, both as a scholar and as a person.
