Due to renovation work, the Musical Instrument Museum of the State Institute for Music Research will temporarily change its opening hours from 18 May 2026. From Wednesday to Friday, the MIM will open at 1 pm. On Thursdays and Fridays, opening hours will be extended until 8 pm, with an additional event on Friday evening. At weekends and on public holidays, the museum will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. The museum will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The revised opening hours from 18 May at a glance:

Wednesday: 1 pm–5 pm
Thursday, Friday: 1 pm–8 pm
Saturday, Sunday: 10 am–5 pm
Monday, Tuesday: closed

From 22 May, a Welcome Guide will be available to visitors on Friday evenings from 6 pm to 7.30 pm to answer questions about the collection and demonstrate instruments. This service is included in the museum admission fee (€10, concessions €5).

The changed opening hours do not affect the extensive programme of events. During this period, we offer special guided tours for nursery groups and school classes in cooperation with the neighbouring Gemäldegalerie.

An overview of all events and guided tours can be found on the SIM website at www.simpk.de.
