Angela Winkler and Hans-Jörn Brandenburg present new musical settings of poems by Else Lasker-Schüler.

On 19 April 1933, Else Lasker-Schüler fled Berlin and Hitler’s Germany in a hurry to Switzerland. In collaboration with the Else Lasker-Schüler Society in Wuppertal, the State Institute for Music Research is marking the 93rd anniversary of her escape with this matinee at the Museum of Musical Instruments.

Under the title “The Heart of Berlin Bohemia – Else Lasker-Schüler”, Angela Winkler will perform the world premiere of new musical settings of Else Lasker-Schüler’s poetry, primarily odes and children’s poems, accompanied on the piano by composer Hans-Jörn Brandenburg.

The event will be hosted by Hajo Jahn and financially supported by the Working Group of Literary Societies and Memorial Sites.
