RILM Abstracts of Music Literature is an international bibliography of musicological scholarship on music. In addition to titles it also offers abstracts of all contributions. It was founded under the patronage of the    International Musicological Society (IMS) and the    International Association of Music Libraries (IAML) in 1966. The    online service of RILM requires a fee; the bibliography is also available as CD-ROM and in print.

RILM is an international project with more than 50 national desks. The titles are listed in their original language and in English.    RILM Head Office is situated at the    Barry S. Brook Center for Music Research and Documentation in New York. The German desk of RILM is located at the SIMPK where all titles published in Germany (also non-German contributions) are entered. The latter publications are also indexed in the    Bibliographie des Musikschrifttums (free online service).

RILM is unique because the abstracts of more than 60 % of all titles indexed are written by the authors themselves, if possible.

The entries are collected from bibliographies, periodicals, and library catalogues. Apart from independent publications also articles from about 300 periodicals published in Germany are indexed, among them many pertaining not only to the musicological field. Textbooks, newspaper articles, concert and CD-critiques, booklets, etc. are usually not included

Our institute is responsible for approximately 20 % of about 2,000 annual new entries. If you would like to have your own musicological publication included into RILM Abstracts of Music Literature , please use our   online form to submit bibliographical information or abstracts.
